Issue #23
A Long-Awaited Return
Hello lovely writers and readers,
I am officially back! It’s been a hectic and altogether frightfully busy two months, but as always, I have returned to my writing and will be attempting to catch up on my many bookmarked posts (currently sitting around 200…).
I can finally say that it is the season of warm sweaters, hot coffee, and many cuddly cats. Throughout December, my goal is to finish developmental edits on The Door Between and move on to line edits. Whether I make that goal is rather uncertain, but it exists nonetheless. There are eleven books left on my reading goal for the year, which is another reason I will be staying in with my cats (as if I needed another), but there are quite a few stories on here as well that will be receiving my undivided attention.
Since I unintentionally took a rather long break from all writing, I will be easing back in with some fun little short stories based on the prompts I had everyone leave in August, so expect more posts soon!
My Weekly Reflection
What happened to TDB?
Since my last issue, in which I completed Draft 4, I have gone on to format and print TDB (much harder than I thought it would be) and read through the first 100 or so pages. Just around the hundred mark, I lost steam, and since then, I have barely touched it. While I should be used to editing by now, each new draft presents a different editing hurdle that makes me question my life decisions.
However! I shall persevere, and this month, I am determined to make it through my initial read. All well wishes are welcome, and no matter where you are in your journey, know that I am rooting for you as well! Every step of writing is difficult, and what is easy for one person (like naming my novels) is difficult for another (like actually finishing each draft).
A Favorite Post
This first issue by Jenna B. Neece is exactly what I wanted to originally turn Sundrift Letters into, but lacked the brilliant creativity to create more than one issue of. The Realm Report reads like a newspaper out of another world, informing just as much about dreams and finicky fogs as it does the actual weather. No matter what part of your day you are in, I recommend you take a quick peek. Lifted spirits are guaranteed.
Meanwhile, the apothecary notes a rise in sales of Clarity Candles, though side effects include remembering every awkward moment from the past decade.
The mayor reminds everyone: if the fog knocks, let it in. It means well. Just don’t let it near your dreams, it tends to borrow them without asking.
In other news, the Library of Forgotten Things has misplaced itself yet again.
If found, please return it to the corner of Time and Almost.
Inside, you may discover shelves filled with unspoken apologies, misfiled destinies, and a surprisingly large section on “Things We Swore We’d Never Do Again.”
A Prompt For The Holidays
Write a Christmas story that is cozy in the most unexpected of ways…
A Question
What part of the writing process is most difficult for you?
A Challenge
Write a story in 500 words or fewer that begins with the end.
Until Next Week…
Adventures to come!
